“Brittany lives a short drive from the ocean, but her family wasn't able to enjoy a day at the beach. That changed when Brittany, who has severe cerebral palsy, received a Freedom Trax through the NC Innovations Waiver. This month, her new Freedom Trax brought Brittany to the ocean’s edge, where she got on a surfboard to ride her first wave Brittany’s family tried several beach wheelchairs over the years, but she was always scared or uncomfortable. With the Freedom Trax, she can ride over rough surfaces like sand from the comfort of her wheelchair. This has unlocked new opportunities for outdoor adventures. Brittany recently participated in a Life Rolls On event at Carolina Beach, where she surfed for the first time. Her family is also starting to enjoy time on local trails. “We are now able to explore like never before,”

Freedom Trax is an attachment that has been designed for manual wheelchairs, and allows Rob’s wheelchair to traverse sand, snow, gravel and mud. The device has allowed Rob to return to his “happy place” much to the delight of his dog, Denzel.
